Video: Schoolchildren, university students in Minsk competing in annual ski race
Around 7,500 teenagers and adult students in Minsk took part in a ski race held in the city's northwestern Vyasnyanka neighborhood on February 18 .
Each general education school in the Belarusian capital city sent 10 boys and 20 girls to the 2012 Minsk Ski Race, aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles among youths.
Kanstantsin Karchewski, a student of Gymnasium No. 30, won the 2.5-kilometer event among students of the Savetski district. “I liked it today,” he told BelaPAN after receiving an award. “It was fun. There were various entertainments, clowns. The contest was cancelled last year due to bitterly cold weather. But I came third the previous year. I had a pole broken on the starting line after someone threaded on it, and had to run without the poles.”
