Video: Belarusian Party of Greens to send at least 1,500 observers to monitor parliamentary vote
The Belarusian Party of the Greens plans to send at least 1,500 observers to polling stations in this year's parliamentary elections, member Alyaksandr Lahutsyonak told reporters in Minsk on February 20.
According to the activist, the party has not yet decided whether it will field members in the elections. "Irrespective of whether or not we will put forward our candidates, observing and monitoring elections is an integral part of our party's political activity. That's why we plan to send our activists to observe the vote and nominate representatives for district election commissions and the central election commission," he said.
The party has enough activists to secure election observation at 25 to 30 percent of the polling stations. "Of course, we are ready for a broad dialogue with all pro-democratic forces and people who have an active civic stance. We plan to have at least 1,500 observers toward the end of the election campaign. The more people we recruit, the more polling stations will be covered [by monitoring]," Mr. Lahutsyonak said.
