Video: Company removes construction equipment from site near Kurapaty

Building equipment and accommodation units were removed on Thursday from a construction site near Kurapaty, a scene of Stalin-era mass executions, amid reports that the developer was ending the project over fierce opposition from the public.
Kurapaty has the status of historical and cultural heritage and is protected by the state, although much of the land just outside its boundaries has been sold to developers.
Opposition activists have kept a round-the-clock vigil on the southeastern edge of Kurapaty in an attempt to stop the company, Belrekanstruktsyya, from constructing a five-story office building at a site that used to be part of the protected area just a few years ago.
