A judge of the Minsk City Court on Friday sentenced Ihar Lasitski, a former deputy health minister, to six years in prison for accepting bribes.

Uladzimir Krawchonak, a former director of City Dental Clinic No. 12 in Minsk who was also accused in the case, was sentenced to five years in prison.

Messrs. Krawchonak and Lyubavitski were arrested by officers of the Committee for State Security (KGB) in mid-2018 as part of an inquiry into corruption schemes involving the supply of drugs and equipment to hospitals.

Mr. Lasitski, who was a deputy health minister when he was apprehended, was accused of accepting bribes ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 in return for helping approve foreign-made medical equipment for sale in Belarus and secure contracts for certain suppliers. Mr. Krawchonak was accused of taking bribes ranging from 300 rubels to €15,000.
