Video: Maryna Zolatava sentenced to fine

Maryna Zolatava, editor in chief of, was found guilty Monday of “inaction by an official” and sentenced to a fine of 7,650 rubels (some $3,575) in a so-called BelTA case.

In addition, Judge Alyaksandr Petrash of the Zavodski District Court in Minsk ordered Ms. Zolatava to pay 6,000 rubels to the government’s news agency BelTA to cover its legal costs. 

Ms. Zolatava will not be able to travel outside Belarus until the sentence comes into force.

Ms. Zolatava stood accused of failing to prevent her subordinates from illegally accessing the paid-subscriber section on BelTA’s website.

Public prosecutor Yuliya Kharcheykina demanded that the woman be sentenced to a fine of 25,500 rubels.
