Video: Foreign Minister Makiej speaks to reporters, issues warning over “unwanted” events in presidential election

Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makiej told reporters on Friday that there would be no third thaw in relations with the European Union in case of “unwanted” events during Belarus’ August presidential election.

“I am convinced that if there are some unwanted events that will take us back to 2010 or that will have an outcome similar to the one we had in 2010, there will be no third thaw,” Mr. Makiej said. “The restoration of normal relations with other countries will take much more time than after 2010. In my opinion, neither society nor the state would benefit from this.”

He also said that the Belarusian authorities had no desire so far to revoke the accreditation of the Belarusian service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
